Title Department

PLEASE NOTE: The following information is intended as a brief guideline. Because of the complexities of many titling issues, we welcome your call to discuss your specific situation.

Proof of Ownership:

A certificate of title is a legal document that provides ownership to a motor vehicle, manufactured home, boat, or motor.  It is also the document that is commonly used in the transfer of ownership.

When transferring ownership the seller must complete THE ENTIRE TOP HALF of the back of the title. ALL BLANK SPACES MUST BE COMPLETED before acknowledgement by the notary. Open titles will not be accepted. Do not erase, alter, scribble or white out any part of the assignment. This also will not be accepted.

Sales Tax:

Sales tax and title fees are due at the time your title is issued. This office DOES NOT accept checks.

Payment can be made by:

  • Cash
  • Credit/debit (fees apply)
  • Cashier’s check
  • Money order

Duplicate Titles:

In the event that your Ohio title is lost or destroyed you can obtain a duplicate. You will need a valid picture ID and the vehicle information.

When a Power of Attorney (POA) is used, it becomes a part of the title transaction and MUST accompany the title to the title department for filing.
If you have been appointed as POA by an individual who is now deceased, that POA is no longer valid.

No minor under 18 years of age shall buy or sell a motor vehicle without the consent of a parent, guardian or other person having custody of the minor. The minor consent form required by the state of Ohio must be notarized and accompany the title to the title department for filing.
